Idli mix is a modern take on the traditional rice idli.Make this in large quantity for your breakfast.

Ingredients:- ( Serve 6 cups )


  • 1 cup split Black gram / Urad dal
  • 1/2 cup Oats
  • 2 cups Rice flakes

IDLI ( Serves 12 )

  • 1 cup Instant Idli Mix
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Chilli paste.
  • 1/4 tsp a Onion seeds / Kalonji
  • 5-7 Curry leaves
  • 1/4 cup Curd
  • 1+1/4 cup Water
  • 1 tsp Fruit salt / ENO


  1. Roast dal approximately for 2 minutes over medium and then grind it into a powder.
  2. Dry roast oat too for a minute and then grind it into powder.
  3. Now dry roast rice flour too over medium for a minute.
  4. Mix all the three flours together and your instead Idli mix is ready.
  5. Now take a cup of Idli Mix add Salt,chilli paste,Kalonji,chopped curry leaves,Curd and Water.
  6. Keep it for 15 min.
  7. Add ENO and mix vigorously.
  8. Keep 2-3 cup Water to boil in steamer,electric cooker or pressure cooker.
  9. Grease Idli mould and pour Idli batter.
  10. After Water starts boiling keep the filed Idli mould to steam.
  11. Steam over medium for about 15 minutes.
  12. Serve hot with any sauce or chutney

Tips :-

  • Instead of Oats you can use rice flakes.
  • For long storage store Idli Mix airtight in fridge.
  • In pressure cooker steam without whistle.
  • Over steaming will deflate the Idli.
